The History of Reiki Healing

Reiki Healing has its roots in traditional Japanese culture and principles. The concept of Reiki healing was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk. It was following an intense period of meditation, prayer and fasting that historical records report that Usui said that the practice came to him through mystical revelation. Once he moved to Tokyo, Usui opened the Spiritual Energy Therapy Society. After his death in 1926, followers of his therapy continued to develop and practise its uses.

What is Reiki

Reiki is a spiritual practise that was developed in 1922. It is a form of therapy based on the principles that the therapist can channel energy into the body which is initially administrated by touching the head, then continuing over the rest of the body. The therapist will use their hands to hover over the body and channel the reiki energy. Reiki is reported to have the powers to heal, restore energy, and promote relaxation and reduce stress among those who have experienced it.

Benefits of Reiki

Followers of Reiki healing believe that unseen life force energy flows through the human body and causes life. When this life force energy is high, for example, after a Reiki healing session, happiness and health are within easy reach.
Some of the benefits include: deep relaxation and reduction of stress, increased sleep and better sleeping patterns, decrease in blood pressure, acceleration of healing process and assistance in breaking addictions, pain relief, support for the immune system, help with treating or curing injuries, asthma, eczema and headaches, cleansing the body of toxins to name a few.

What conditions benefit from Reiki?

As Reiki benefits the whole body and not just symptoms it can assist in easing most conditions. It also eases the pain of more chronic diseases and helps reduce the negative side effects of drugs and other treatments. Reiki recognises that it is not our problems that need healing but our whole self. Reiki works by clearing away the blockages that prevent us from being whole.

What Happens at a Reiki Session?

During the Reiki session the practitioner places his or her hands very lightly on the head at the beginning of the session then continues without touching over the rest of the body in a variety of positions. The recipient is normally lying down and always remains fully clothed throughout the session as Reiki is so powerful it will even reach the body through a plaster cast.

How Does Reiki Feel?

Everyone experiences Reiki in a different way. Some feel a slight tingling or sensations of warmth, others just a deep relaxation. Some find themselves in a deep meditative state whilst others feel rejuvenated and energised. Some even fall into a deep and refreshing sleep.

Is Reiki Suitable For Everyone?

Reiki is always totally safe and appropriate making it suitable for everyone – children and adults. It benefits people in wonderful and extraordinary ways. It is also highly effective for animals.
