Reflexology: heal the body by treating the feet

2015-08-25T10:35:02+01:00August 25th, 2015|Reflexology|

http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Reflexology-heal-body-treating-feet/story-27666085-detail/story.html

As with so many “alternative” therapies, reflexology has its roots in the ancient civilisations of China, India, North America and Egypt. Working on the principle that reflexes on the feet – and hands – act as mirror images of the body, this treatment is designed to encourage the body to balance and heal itself.

But although the practice may have been around for thousands of years, it’s not easy for everyone to get their head around the idea that applying pressure to the feet can make a difference to back pain, migraine or a grumbling tummy.

For explanation and demonstration, I turned to Tamsin Marshall, who’s been practising reflexology in Bristol for almost eight years. Beautifully poised (she’s also a musician and takes yoga classes), Tamsin is warm and open and I’m immediately at ease.

She seats me in a special chair – a bit like a sun lounger that tips backwards – so I’m almost lying down. With my feet up on a pillow in front of her and a warm blanket on the arm of the chair in case I need to cosy up, Tamsin takes brief notes about my general health, covering known problem areas, stress, digestion, sleeping and exercise patterns.

To help explain how reflexology works, she passes me coloured charts showing which points on the feet and hand correspond to which body part.

For example, the head is the big toe, the outside of each ball is a shoulder, while the stomach, liver and kidneys are concentrated across the […]

Women’s Health in the 21st Century.

The way we are living our lives has changed dramatically over the last century, particularly for many females. According to the Office of National Statistics more women are now working than ever before, and many will have to work well into their 60’s. Alongside work, women frequently hold responsibility for running the home, family life, budgeting etc. It is therefore little surprise that women often have times when pressures may feel excessive – throw all of that in with our changing hormone levels associated with peri-menopause and menopause and no wonder that this is a time when we could all do with a little extra help.

The Mental Health Organisation Health Statistics1 report that women in the UK are more likely to have an anxiety disorder and this is most common between the ages of 45 to 54 – but why? And what can we do to protest our own emotional health?

This is a time when many things can be happening in our lives, there may be children leaving home, worry about getting work and also dealing with the peri-menopause and menopause. Hormones are essential for women’s health and changing levels can affect us both physically and emotionally. As we approach the menopause, our oestrogen levels drop; oestrogen has many functions, including a direct impact on the stress hormone Cortisol. As oestrogen levels […]

According To Psychologists, Coloring Is The Best Alternative To Meditation

According To Psychologists, Coloring Is The Best Alternative To Meditation

Really interesting article taken from a facebook post by leading Reflexologist Ziggie Bergman, read on:

This may seem an odd one but I have had really good feedback from the most unexpected of clients who tried this out. Helping clients to reduce stress in their daily lives and change their patterns sometimes requires a little creativity. Adult coloring books can be amazing for those who would never sit still to meditate and the benefits suggest coloring is a good alternative. This Aftercare advice supports the most important weekly Facial Reflexology or standard Reflexology treatments of course to help reduce stress.

As of the time of this publication, six of the top 20 selling books on Amazon are adult coloring books. Coloring is a hobby that we typically think only little toddlers and kindergartners would enjoy, but it turns out that even adults can benefit from it.
Coloring is a low-stress activity that allows an individual to unlock their creative potential. More importantly, it helps relieve tension and pent-up anxiety because it unlocks memories of childhood and simpler times. As psychologist Antoni Martínez explains to The Huffington Post, “I recommend it as a relaxation technique. We can use it to enter a more creative, freer state. I recommend it in a quiet environment, even with chill music. Let the color and the lines flow.”

Ben Michaelis, a psychologist, says, “There is a long history of people coloring for mental health reasons. Carl Jung [founder of psychology] […]

Time before burning with bare skin x SPF = Time before burning with sunscreen on

Crippled athlete becomes fitness model after reflexology

Crippled athlete to fitness model: Reflexology cures man’s debilitating back injury

INTERNATIONAL track and field athlete Steve Watson was left crippled after a horrific sports injury, but alternative medicine has left him fighting fit.

The 22-year-old discus thrower had his 2016 Olympic dream smashed after he injured his spinal discs during training.

Steve, from Hemel Hempstead, also suffered severe muscle damage to the lower back and was left unable to bend, and barely able to move without assistance.

“I was performing a deadlift with 260kg. As I began to pull the weight I heard a crack from my lower back – that was it,” said Steve.

In constant pain and unable to exercise, the buff sports star, who was based at Loughborough University, hit rock bottom.

The injury meant that all his hard work would go to waist and his dream of becoming an Olympic athlete looked bleak.

“When the injury hit it was devastating,” he said.

“When you work so hard for something only to see it disappear was incredibly demoralising.”

For 18 frustrating months, Steve would undergo physician guidance to try and repair the muscle and bone damage, but with very little progress and still very limited mobility.

“The biggest struggle during this time was not being able to be active and exercise,” he said.

“Sport was always such a huge part of my life”.

Then in October last year his life changed for the better after he was introduced to reflexology.

“I started working for sports supplement company LA Muscle […]
